Take the risk assessment
Certain chronic conditions like diabetes, heart disease, or chronic lung disease can increase your risk for pneumococcal pneumonia. The risk can go up even further if you have more than one condition.
Adults with immunocompromising conditions or taking medications that suppress the immune system are also at higher risk. For example, some medicines that treat psoriatic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn’s disease, or ulcerative colitis, among others. Those taking a biologic or receiving chemotherapy are also at increased risk.
Chronic medical conditions and age combine to multiply risk.
